Introduction

A chance encounter with a former business colleague on a flight to CapeTown

some months back, gave birth to what is poised to become business South Africa's most visited website.

Letepe Maisela, Management Consultant, BEE investor and published author of four books, is the creator of what might be the first intergrated BEE
Portal, aptly named busyasBEE.

The erstwhile business partner who started all this, had casually remarked to Letepe how he has been conspicuous by his absence from the corporate cocktail scene, to which he nonchalantly retorted:
'Well, I am as busy as a bee'.

The former colleague had quickly shot back:
' Ah - ha! Busy with BEE deals I suppose?
'You are right, busy with BEE deals' and a simple yet long overdue concept, busyasBEE was conceived.

Up to now, strangely enough, South Africa does not have its own homegrown dedicated online BEE portal. Mind you this is in a country that first gave the world the very concept of BEE. Just try getting on the web and search for BEE and you get led to a variety of sites hosted by different organs varying from DTI, BEE Rating Agencies, BEE support Groups, etc. all covering specific aspects and issues on BEE.

busyasBEE is thus poised to open new frontiers creating a centralized information portal where all BEE related information will be housed, with linkages to relevant BEE information silos. One has to concede that indeed BEE is indeed a beehive of business activity - pardon the intended pun. BEE deals are being struck and announced daily in the media. Even the current Recession has somehow failed to dim the enthusiasm. This is simply due to the fact that BEE is no longer a nice-to-have of South African corporate landscape but has become part of the Business Process. Charters covering a variety of business sectors are continuously being formulated while conferences, seminars and exhibitions covering BEE topics are a regular activity.

With the introduction of the busyasBEE portal, accessing information on BEE and related issues should no longer become like the proverbial search for a needle in a haystack. When its switched on, it will flutter its wings, becoming yet another significant milestone in the advance march for BEE. The website structure will cover inter-alia following information on BEE :

  • Legislative Framework e.g. ,Broad-based BEE Act, Broad-based BEE Strategy, BEE Codes of Good Practice, etc
  • BEE Industry Charters
  • BEE Funding Institutions
  • BEE Support Agencies e.g DTI, SEDA, NEF, etc
  • BEE Companies listing
  • BEE key players
  • Women owned businesses
  • BEE monitoring agencies e.g Empowerdex
  • BEE Forums
  • BEE Advise
  • BEE Awards
  • BEE Conferences, Seminars and Exhibitions
  • General BEE news
  • Etc

It would seem that when this website is actually in place and goes 'live', it will become busyasBEE.
